Implementation of Electronic Certificate of Origin (e-CO) under the Pilot Project between Thailand and Japan under the JTEPA
Effective from 1 August 2025 onwards
The Customs Department of Thailand will implement the use of the Electronic Certificate of Origin (e-CO) under the pilot project between Thailand and Japan, in accordance with the Japan-Thailand Economic Partnership Agreement (JTEPA), starting from 1 August 2025.
The implementation covers the following key areas:
1️. Format of the Certificate of Origin (CO)
Includes both paper-based, PDF format, and fully electronic formats.
2️. Customs procedures for using the Electronic Certificate of Origin (e-CO)
Specific processes will be applied for electronic validation and clearance.
3️. Customs procedures for using the Certificate of Origin in PDF format (CO in PDF)
Applicable where electronic transmission is not yet implemented or required.
J1P, J2P, J3P = CO in PDF & CO in paper
J1E, J2E, J3E = e-CO
These codes must be declared accurately during customs procedures in order to claim preferential tariff treatment under JTEPA.
