Thailand's digital economy is experiencing rapid growth, driven by strong support from the public and private sectors, as well as the increasing demand for high-performance cloud and AI technologies. Businesses are adopting a wide range of digital tools to enhance operational efficiency, elevate customer experiences, and unlock new business opportunities. As a result, AI and cloud technologies have become critical components of the country's economic transformation.

The Thai government is prioritizing its strategy to establish the country as a regional AI hub through three key pillars: cultivating AI talent, developing high-performance digital infrastructure, and accelerating the adoption of AI across key industries. The goal is to train 10 million AI users, 90,000 AI professionals, and 50,000 AI developers within two years. This is being pursued alongside investments in cloud systems, data centers, and open-source AI platforms to deliver scalable and cost-effective solutions.

Government studies reveal that fewer than 20% of Thai organizations have adopted AI, while over 70% have plans to implement itdemonstrating strong potential for future growth. This momentum aligns with Thailands expanding public cloud market, which is projected to grow at a CAGR of 23.68% from 2025 to 2030, reaching a total value of USD 8.51 billion by 2030. Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), expected to be worth USD 950.23 million in 2025, is set to lead this expansion.

Laying the Foundation for Growth

Alibaba has launched its second data center in Thailand earlier this year, offering a wide range of solutions to support the nations digital ambitions. This data center infrastructure enables businesses to harness AI, perform big data analytics, and run industry-specific applicationswithout concerns over latency, compliance, or scalability

In addition to infrastructure development, Alibaba Cloud has partnered with the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) and various universities to nurture local talent through training programs, AI competitions, and e-learning platforms. One notable initiative is Eye for Thailand, the first AI-generated video competition organized by Alibaba Cloud. Participants were challenged to use Wan2.1, Alibabas proprietary video generation model, to produce short creative videos that blend Thai creativity with cutting-edge innovation.

On Demo Day of the Eye for Thailand event, held at the depa headquarters in July,
the finalists showcased AI-generated video content using Wan, Alibabas video generation model,
to present creative concepts of Thailand through AI-driven storytelling.

The competition attracted over 200 participants from across the countryfrom software developers to marketers. It culminated in a Demo Day, where finalists showcased both their creativity and technical skills. The winners stood as prime examples of how AI can revolutionize storytelling, highlighting the growing public engagement with emerging technologies.

Expanding Capabilities Across the Region and the World

Southeast Asia continues to be a major hub for cloud adoption. In addition to the new data center in Thailand, Alibaba Cloud has also expanded its infrastructure services to Mexico, South Korea, and Malaysia, with plans to enter the Philippines in October. Currently, the companys global network spans 15 availability zones across 29 regions, delivering scalable and low-latency cloud services worldwide.

One of Alibaba Clouds proven strengths lies in migrating complex workloads, as demonstrated in Indonesia, where it played a key role in supporting the nations largest digital ecosystem. GoTo Group successfully migrated its core financial services infrastructure to Alibaba Cloud, enabling the company to serve millions of users with zero downtime.

Post-migration, GoTo also moved its critical business data platform to Alibaba Cloud using MaxCompute, significantly improving operational agility and cost-efficiency. Over tens of petabytes of data were transferred seamlessly within six months. This large-scale transformation highlights Alibaba Clouds capability to deliver flexible, enterprise-grade migration services across all sectors.

Empowering Everyone with AI through Open-Source Innovation

Open-source models are a key driver of inclusion in an era of rapid AI adoption. Qwen3, the latest large language model (LLM) series developed by Alibaba, has surpassed 12.5 million global downloads. The Qwen3 series spans from lightweight models with 0.6B parameters to high-performance Mixture-of-Experts architectures, enabling developers to build AI solutions tailored for sectors like healthcare, education, and smart devices.

Qwen supports multiple languages, including Thai, and is backed by a vibrant open-source community that continuously drives innovation. To date, developers have created over 130,000 derivative models across platforms such as Hugging Face, demonstrating Qwens versatility and adaptability.

By open-sourcing these tools, Alibaba is empowering startups, researchers, and software developers to accelerate AI innovation and contribute meaningfully to the broader AI ecosystem.

Advancing Toward a Collaborative Digital Future

Cloud adoption, AI integration, and digital skill development are among the top priorities for accelerating Thailands digital transformation. Alibaba Cloud remains committed to supporting this transition through reliable infrastructure, accessible AI tools, and talent empowerment initiatives.

As we expand our footprint in Thailand and Southeast Asia, we are dedicated to being a trusted partner in shaping the regions digital futurewhere innovation meets collaboration, and commitment is transformed into real-world impact.

Together, we can unlock limitless opportunities for businesses, communities, and the next generation of digital talent in Thailand.
